Ice
Sweet Vermouth 1/4 oz
Whiskey - Bourdon 2 oz
Stir
Strain
Cherry
Bitters (Optional)
Fill shaker with ice. Add vermouth and then whiskey. Stir, strain into glass, and garnish. Add bitters if desired.
This is essentially a Martini with whiskey instead of gin and sweet vermouth instead of dry. This drink is old, having originated in the 1870's in Manhattan, New York. The drink became very fashionable and has been called "The King Of Cocktails."
