Fill glass with ice and add Whiskey. Fill to the top with Ginger Ale and garnish with the thin straw.

It varies among bartenders depending upon whom and where you ask, but to many people a classic highball is defined as being whiskey and ginger ale.

Traditionally a highball is any drink where you have liquor and a carbonated mixer. A rum and Coke is just as much a highball as a whiskey and ginger ale.

Our favorite highball is the classic tequila and Coke. Yum!! The subtle complexity of this drink is just astounding. The bright and colorful flavors intermingle to provide an explosion of fun in your mouth.

If as a bartender anyone ever asks you for a tequila and Coke, send the waitress back to double check the order because this drink is just grotesque. No one orders it except for kids that have just turned 21 and don't know what they're doing.

When I was in college all we had one Friday night was a bottle of tequila and a bottle of Coke. Being wimps we chose not to do shots, therefore we drank tequila and Coke. To this day the mere thought of that drink induces nausea.
