Popular since the 70's, this drink is similar to a Cape Cod. Cheryl Cook is credited with creating an early version of the drink in South Beach, Florida. She once said in an interview that many people ordered Martini's just so they could hold a Martini glass. I guess they thought Martini glasses were cool?
She therefore decided to create something that actually tasted good while being served in a Martini glass. The best of both worlds. The drink gained popularity throughout the 90's and became the trendy drink of choice for many women.
There are many variations of the drink including a Blue Cosmopolitan where Blue Curacao is used instead of Triple sec.
