The Daiquiri evolved from something that was served over cracked ice and basically consisted of lots of rum and lime juice, to the delicious frosty drink of today. The Daiquiri became very popular in the US during the 1940's due to other liquors being rationed because of the war. During that time it could be difficult to purchase Whiskey, Vodka, and other liquors.
Rum on the other hand was readily available due to Roosevelt's "Good Neighbor Policy" which allowed great quantities of rum to be shipped in from Latin America. This helped rum to become fashionable and helped propel the Daiquiri to stardom.
Did we mention that this drink is also deliciously tasty? There are many variations of this classic, the Strawberry Daiquiri being our favorite.
